Much of North Carolina’s Venus flytrap territory is privately owned. Debbie Crane of The Nature Conservancy will describe the Venus Flytrap Champions, a program that works to help private landowners identify and manage flytrap habitat. Landowners in the Carolinas with Venus Flytrap on their property can play a significant role in maintaining the remaining Flytrap populations and preventing the loss of this fascinating, management-dependent species. The Nature Conservancy is one of many organizations participating in this new program.

About the Speaker

Debbie Crane has been Communication Director for the N.C. Chapter of The Nature Conservancy since 2008 – the culmination of a career that has included journalism and government public information. She has a lifelong obsession with flytraps - a native of western North Carolina, she took her first job as a reporter in Columbus County in order to live in flytrap country. In addition to inserting flytraps into conversations and publications as often as possible, she also organizes TNC’s Annual Walk with the Meat Eaters to highlight flytraps and other carnivorous plants.
