Time: 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Fee: $21 ($19 Members)
Take a turn around the Mason Farm Biological Reserve’s Old Farm Trail, which travels through some 260 years of cultural and natural history. Naturalist Ed Harrison will point out wildflowers and discuss how the Garden’s intense management of both field and forest benefits local biological diversity conservation.
About 2.5 miles in length, the hike includes a short off-trail foray into the old-growth Shagbark Hickory forest. Wear sturdy hiking footwear and bring insect repellent, water, and a walking stick, if you ever use one.
NOTE: We will meet off-site and then carpool to Mason Farm. The meeting spot will be provided upon registration.
Ed Harrison earned a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management from Duke, with concentrations in environmental impact analysis and in plant community ecology. He’s been an active member of the Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve Management Committee since 1998, leading the Spring and Fall public tours for the Garden since 1999. Ed began doing similar tours for Mason Farm Biological Reserve in 2007.
