Course Description

When was the last time you had a professional development opportunity that focused solely on you? Did your preservice preparation include opportunities and strategy to help prevent burn out and empower you with the skills to maximize your own wellness?
This course is built on the philosophy that you cannot take care of others without taking care of yourself first. Over 40% of teachers report feeling high stress daily during the school year. 40-50% of first year teachers leave education in their first five years of teaching. High levels of stress can have negative consequences on a body. Self-care cannot just be about lighting a candle and taking a bath rather about self-preservation. This course will help educators to self-assess their own wellness, discuss the brain science behind why self-care is so critical, ask participants to engage in self-reflection, and explore different domains & self-care strategies. Students will focus on building capacity to do more than just “get through” but learn how to thrive instead. This is a must-attend course for all educators.
This course is presented in a modified, self-paced format. Participants are expected to access the course and post regularly (at least once a week) and make reasonable progress, but there are no due dates attached to individual assignments to provide flexibility and to better accommodate participants' busy schedules.
