Goals

After training, ASIST participants should be able to:

  • Recognize that caregivers and persons at risk are affected by personal and societal attitudes about suicide.
  • Discuss suicide in a direct manner with someone at risk.
  • Identify risk alerts and develop related safe plans.
  • Demonstrate the skills required to intervene with a person at risk of suicide.
  • List the types of resources available to a person at risk, including themselves.
  • Make a commitment to improving community resources.
  • Recognize that suicide prevention is broader than suicide first-aid and includes life promotion and self-care for caregivers.

Description

ASIST is a highly-interactive training that requires presence, vulnerability, and commitment. It includes an exploration of our personal experiences and values related to suicide. The process engages us in discussions, film, simulations, and reflections.

Please clear your schedule for the training period on both days and arrive ready to form a community of reflective learners. Your trainers have a deep commitment to providing a safe environment to expand your skills as a caregiver to people with thoughts of suicide and ground your work in ASIST's 'Pathway for Assisting Life.'

Fees: Free with commitment & confirmation. Lane ESD is providing all trainee materials to trainees. These trainings often cost approximately $275.
