Details

During this webinar, you will apply practical strategies to redesign components of your course using the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) for course content, activities, and assessments. UDL is a research-based framework that instructors can use to promote inclusivity in course design to improve learning experiences for all students. We will discuss UDL and how you can apply the principle of Representation to course content, the principle of Engagement to course activities, and the principle of Action and Expression to course assessments. Please come to the webinar prepared to discuss your current course content, activities, and assessments.


This is an elective session for a certificate of completion in Teaching Towards Inclusive Excellence.

** Registration Procedures Update **

In order for attendees to personally track their current registrations and attendance at certificate of completion workshops and events, the Center for Teaching Excellence requires that all registrants create an account in our registration system and login to register for all workshops.

 

If you have an existing training account with the Division of Human Resources, Office of Organizational and Professional Development, you do not need to create an account. You can login using your HR training username and password. By logging in to register for CTE events, your complete training record for both CTE and HR trainings will be available with a single account and login.

 

Participants must attend a workshop in its entirety to receive credit for the workshop in their training records. Late arrival and/or early exit from a workshop invalidates receiving credit. If technology issues require rescheduling of a workshop, participants must attend the workshop at the rescheduled time to receive credit. These policies apply to all CTE workshops/events, including workshops that qualify as requirements/electives for a certificate of completion.

Gloria Washington
Instructional Designer
Center for Teaching Excellence


Gloria Washington is an instructional designer at the Center for Teaching Excellence with 24 years of experience in higher education at the University of South Carolina. She serves as a co-chair for the Provost Advisory Committee for Women Initiatives (PACWI). She is a Blackboard Certified Trainer and a Blackboard Exemplary Course Program Reviewer. Washington completed the Quality Matters’ Applying the QM Rubric and Higher Education Peer Reviewer courses. Before coming to CTE, she worked in Teaching and Technology Services and as a Technology Director for the Ted Mimms Foreign Language Learning Center. Washington serves as Associate Editor for the International Journal of Innovative Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. She is the President-Elect of the Association for Distance Education and Independent Learning (ADEIL). Washington also authors the blog, Pedagogy Before Technology. She holds a Doctor of Education, a Master of Arts in Education, and a Master of Business Administration. Her expertise is in the pedagogical use of technology to support teaching and learning. Her instructional design philosophy is “pedagogy first, technology second.”
