The Provost Office and the Center for Teaching Excellence, in partnership with Historic Columbia, invite new faculty members and their spouse/partner to participate in the New Faculty Community Engagement Tour. New faculty are invited to take a guided bus tour of Columbia with James Quint, Director of Education, Historic Columbia Foundation, on Friday, August 20. During the tour, you'll get to learn more about your new city, find out about community engagement initiatives at the university and have an opportunity to network with other new faculty. You'll learn interesting things that even natives may not know, and discover ways that you can connect with the city. 

After the tour, lunch will be provided by the Spotted Salamander at the historic Robert Mills Carriage House. The program will conclude by 1:15 p.m.

** Registration Procedures Update **

In order for attendees to personally track their current registrations and attendance at certificate of completion workshops and events, the Center for Teaching Excellence requires that all registrants create an account in our registration system and login to register for all workshops.

 

If you have an existing training account with the Division of Human Resources, Office of Organizational and Professional Development, you do not need to create an account. You can login using your HR training username and password. By logging in to register for CTE events, your complete training record for both CTE and HR trainings will be available with a single account and login.

 

Participants must attend a workshop in its entirety to receive credit for the workshop in their training records. Late arrival and/or early exit from a workshop invalidates receiving credit. If technology issues require rescheduling of a workshop, participants must attend the workshop at the rescheduled time to receive credit. These policies apply to all CTE workshops/events, including workshops that qualify as requirements/electives for a certificate of completion.

James Quint
Director of Education
Historic Columbia


James Quint graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation and minor in history. He completed his Master’s Degree in Museum Studies from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 2008 and joined Historic Columbia that year as their Education Coordinator. Prior to working at Historic Columbia, James worked at the Indiana Historical Society, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and interned at the Missouri State Museum. 


James currently serves as the Director of Education, overseeing all visitor experiences and interactions at Historic Columbia. This department develops and implements programs for the organization’s five historic house museums and administers educational activities which address the diverse and unique history of the Midlands. He served as the chair for the Program Session Committee and is the current chair for the Emerging Museum Professional committee for SEMC.
