Synopsis
This course is designed to prepare the dental auxiliary (dental assistants and dental hygienists) to obtain certification in nitrous oxide monitoring as mandated by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. Nitrous oxide and oxygen sedation have been used safely and successfully to assist in the management of pain and anxiety. This course will present a comprehensive review of the history of nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation, stages of anesthesia; anatomy and physiology; characteristics of nitrous oxide; indications and contraindications for nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation; and equipment used for conscious sedation. You will also gain knowledge in infection control protocols, patient-monitoring procedures and prevention of complications.
Upon completion of this course, you will take the required examination; the passing score is 70% or higher. You will have the opportunity to retake the examination up to two times ($75 each exam). If you do not successfully pass after the 3rd attempt, the entire course must be retaken.
Participants will receive the Nitrous Oxide Monitoring Study Guide in the confirmation email. It is important to print the Study Guide in color and bring a copy with you to the course as no copies will be available on the day of the course.
