OSHA and Infection Control Updates for Dentistry While Navigating COVID-19 (LIVE STREAM)

The course will provide an overview of current CDC, ADA and OSHA guidance for dentistry during the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be a review of stated CDC guidelines and protocols that reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the dental practice. The course will also deliver the recommendations from the ADA and strategies for best practices to ensure health and safety of team members and patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Required OSHA Standards as they apply to the practice of dentistry will be reviewed as well as current guidance set forth by OSHA, specifically related to dentistry and the COVID-19 pandemic. The course will provide the rationale for compliance through an evidence-based approach that consists of supportive literature, current events and other information on prevalent risks associated with the delivery of dental care during the COVID-19 pandemic. The course fulfills the infection control continuing education requirement for Wisconsin licensure.


Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the current CDC guidelines to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission in dental settings
  • Implement strategies outlined by the ADA for team and patient safety during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Recognize the role of OSHA in promoting dental healthcare provider safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Katherine Schrubbe is an independent consultant on OSHA and dental infection control. She earned her Bachelor of Science, Masters in Education and PhD from Marquette University and holds a dental hygiene license from the State of Wisconsin. Dr. Schrubbe has served in corporate dentistry and has over 30 years of experience in dental education at Marquette University School of Dentistry on the faculty and in clinic administration responsible for compliance, risk management and quality assurance. She is active in many professional organizations and committees, including the WDA, ADHA and the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP). Dr. Schrubbe contributes to the scientific literature on OSHA and infection control topics, provides continuing education programs nationally and consults with private practices for required OSHA training and other compliance-related services. She also serves as a member of the Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board.
