The Greater Houston Industrial Hygiene Council (GHIHC) is an informal group of industrial hygienists and safety professionals who meet six times per year to discuss trends in the safety profession, share challenges (and their solutions),and network with their peers in an educational setting. Industry professionals provide practical lessons in management, equipment, and compliance. Academic experts present the latest in research and technology.

We meet the third Thursday of each even-numbered month.

Effective September 1, 2019, once the new renovations are completed for the parking lots in the OCB Parking areas, there will no longer be any “free” visitor parking. The visitor parking rates are shown in the table below and payment is accepted by credit/debit card only!

Visitors, please be prepared to pay at gate by credit/debit card only upon leaving the visitor parking area. Parking vouchers are provided to program agenda producers and guest speakers in exchange for service to SWCOEH CE program events.

UTHealth SWCOEH event visitors, please bring a current form of legal identification to sign-in with security at reception. UTHealth employees and students should wear UTHealth badge.


Enter at the front of the building that is facing Crosspoint Avenue. After leaving the security reception area, walk left down hallway, walk left to elevator, and take elevator to 2nd floor. Exit elevator and the Rio Grande Room is to the left around the corner, Room 2.200. Please sign-in at the event check-in desk to confirm attendance.

The Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) supports research, education and outreach in occupational and environmental health. The SWCOEH is housed within the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics and Environmental Sciences of the UTHealth School of Public Health.

The SWCOEH was established in 1977 as a NIOSH-funded Education and Research Center (ERC), now one of 18 ERCs in the nation. In 1985, the SWCOEH became a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Occupational Health.

The mission of the SWCOEH Continuing Education (CE) Program is to serve as a training resource for professionals and decision-makers in the occupational and environmental health fields by delivering specialized courses in response to current training needs. Our ultimate goal is to improve occupational and environmental health. Our core subject areas are occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, hazardous substances and materials and occupational health nursing.
