Course Description

Primary Core Capability: Public Information and Warning


The Sport and Special Event Public Information and Emergency Notification course brings planners, operators, public information professionals, government, public safety, and marketing professionals together in an effort to prepare and/or enhance venue and event communication programs. The course prescribes best practices to common communication pitfalls and provides flexible and scalable solutions to a wide range of scenarios.

The training leverages a combination of exercises, discussions, and activities to optimize participant experience.

Course Objectives
  • Evaluate communication fundamentals for applying clear, concise, accurate and actionable messaging.
  • Determine communication roles and responsibilities for an event or incident.
  • Develop messages for events and incidents.
  • Assess pre-event communication criteria.
  • Apply strategies and tactics for incident communication deliverables.
  • Determine appropriate communication needs and strategies for a given scenario.

Prerequisites

Recommended:

 

  • AWR-167: Sport and Special Event Risk Management
  • IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS)
  • IS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS), an introduction.
  • IS-200: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
  • IS-800: National Response Framework, An Introduction
