Course Description

Course will help attendees enhance their ability to assess and evaluate for suicide risk. Attention will also be given to populations at a higher risk for suicide. The course will include information regarding factors that increase and protect against suicide risk. In addition, attendees will be provided with strategies to utilize when completing a suicide risk assessment and critical factors to include when developing a safety plan. Attendees will also be encouraged to engage in a role play to practice completing portions of a suicide risk assessment.

 


Objectives

· Identify factors that place individuals at an increased risk for suicide.

· Identify factors that protect against suicide risk.

· Identify populations at higher risk of suicide

· Discuss strategies for engaging individuals in a suicide risk assessment.

· Identify critical aspects of a safety plan

· Demonstrate ability to complete a suicide risk assessment


Instructor(s)

Dr. Ross obtained her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Spalding University in 2016. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Lexington VA Medical Center with a focus on treating PTSD and substance use disorders among the Veteran population. She went on to complete post-doctoral training on the residential PTSD and substance use disorders treatment team at the Lexington VAMC. Dr. Ross returned to Ohio in 2017. She is currently working for the VA Northeast Ohio Medical Center on the PTSD Clinical Team. Her focus and passion is in treating Veterans diagnosed with PTSD using trauma-focused and evidence-based therapies. In addition, Dr. Ross serves as an adjunct faculty member for Spalding University teaching undergraduate psychology courses.

Refund to original payment is made at 100% when a registrant cancels attendance at least two business days before the start of the first class. There are no refunds for a cancellation with less than 48 hours' notice. After class starts, there are no changes or cancellations. Credit card refunds take 7-10 business days to show up on your credit card statement. Cash refunds by check take 10 to 14 business days to process.
