Course Description

THIS REGISTRATION IS FOR MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS SEEKING CE CREDITS FOR LICENSE RENEWAL. Contact us at cecasal@csuohio.edu if you know community members who would like to attend the event.

This course will be a unique opportunity to meet community members also attending the course. The course will be aimed at educating the community members about caregiver burnout while also providing a CE opportunity for trained mental health counselors.

What looks like, sounds like, and feels like depression with anxious distress? Caregiver burnout. 43.5 million caregivers have provided voluntary care to an adult or child in the last 12 months (National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP, 2015). Individuals are so focused on supporting the other they often don't realize something has happened. They complain of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion and will say for “no reason” and report that they have never felt like this before. This workshop will help you to recognize caregiver burnout in your clients, discuss key points in building resilience, and offer tools for managing burnout.

Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Discuss the role and impact of being a caregiver including defining caregiver burnout and understanding the causes.

Identify symptoms and ways to prevent/manage caregiver burnout.

Present case studies to further understanding and awareness of caregiver burnout

Demonstrate ways to cultivate strength and build resiliency for your clients presenting with caregiver burnout

Assess and Diagnose caregiver burnout

Practice self-care and prioritize “taking care of self in order to take care of others” (Stephen Covey quote)
