Details

Despite the educational challenges of the pandemic, WRESA serves to accelerate and innovate instruction to support ALL students. This Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) professional learning series offers an opportunity to examine our current systems to ensure equitable practices and increase momentum as we enter into a new and stronger school year.

These MTSS offerings are designed to be a continuous series, each session building off one another, in an effort to support a solid framework. Based on school/district needs, teams may register for individual sessions.

Dedicated time with school/district team members to collaborate on action plans will be embedded as well as opportunities to share out and learn from other Wayne County MTSS leadership teams. Some sessions may include additional asynchronous tasks to be completed prior to the next session. SCECHs will be offered for the synchronous learning sessions.

The intended audience for this event includes members of the MTSS leadership team, building and district administrators, curriculum specialists, and general and special educators.

Event Sessions:

10/14/21 - 'A Common Understanding & Purpose, K-12'
According to the MDE Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Practice Profile, MTSS is a comprehensive framework comprised of a collection of research-based strategies designed to meet the individual needs and assets of the whole child at all achievement levels. MTSS intentionally interconnects the education, health, and human service systems in support of learners, schools, centers, and community outcomes. This session will offer a brief review of the evolution of MTSS in the past decade and unpack the current research and guiding principles that strengthen this framework and how it aligns with your current practices.

11/30/21 - 'Vision & Beliefs, K-12'
A vision statement serves as a strategic plan for success. When a vision statement is crafted by the collective beliefs of a team, ownership is achieved. During this session, MTSS leadership teams will unpack their beliefs about equitable teaching and learning and consider multiple ways in helping students reach their full capacity. By examining our beliefs it helps to reflect on our actions.

01/25/22 - 'Guidance for Implementation, K-12'
Where are you in the development or refinement of the necessary supports and resources for MTSS implementation? What components are supporting effective and sustained use of the MTSS framework? What components might need to be developed or shifted to promote effective use of actions or practices? In this session, the MDE MTSS Practice Profile will be used as a reflection tool to support your MTSS leadership team in determining next steps in the process. Examples of structures and frameworks will be shared.

02/03/22 - 'Examining Existing Practices & Resources in Tier 1, Secondary'
This session will focus on high quality core instruction that strives to meet students' needs through four daily goals: (1) Implement high-quality, research based general education curriculum based on expert teaching, (2) Integrate differentiated instruction using resources that extend beyond a common program, (3) Offer differentiated, more focused instructional support by aligning assessment and classroom instruction, and (4) Monitor each students progress with continuous, reliable, and authentic formal and informal assessments that support instruction.
