Who are newcomers and long-term ELs, and how can we best meet their needs? Research has demonstrated that it is vital to identify and establish programming for these two groups of multilingual learners in order to foster their language development and academic progress. We will explore first and second language acquisition theory and practice, the silent period for newcomers, differentiation and accommodations, and progress monitoring. The EL Team will provide you with strategies and tools to best serve these two groups of multilingual learners.
