This session will address what constitutes true coaching, the roles of an Instructional Coach, and how to support Instructional Coaches. Finally, we will explore how to evaluate an Instructional Coaching program.

This professional development will be a virtual session. The presenter will send a private access code to participants prior to the session after they have registered for the course.

Jill Geocaris; Becky Mathison

Jill Geocaris is the Director of the Chicago Coaching Center and sits on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Council of Instructional Coaches. She is highly trained in instructional coaching practices from coaching experts such as Jim Knight, Diane Sweeney and Jane Kise. In her current role as the Adult Learning Coordinator at Maine Township High School District 207 in Park Ridge, she is responsible for leading the district’s “all in” coaching program and for supporting the professional growth of the district’s instructional coaches.

Ms. Geocaris was previously the Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning at Maine South High School and a Social Studies Department Chair and Assessment Literacy trainer. She holds a BS in Social Studies Education, a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.








Becky Mathison has been passionate about instructional coaching since attending her first professional development experience about it in 2013. Since then, she has successfully created and developed an instructional coaching program in Skokie School District 73.5 and co-founded the Niles Township Instructional Coaching Network. She has had over two months of training from instructional coaching experts including: Jim Knight, Elena Aguilar and Diane Sweeney.

Mrs. Mathison serves on the Illinois Council of Instructional Coaches Board of Directors and currently works as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in Skokie School District 73.5. She has earned a BA in Elementary Education, Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, CAS in Educational Leadership and is a doctoral candidate studying effective coaching programs.
