Virginity is historically rooted in establishing paternity. In Christian times, virginity was believed to be a gift from God, only to be released by a husband. But the word didn’t always mean “untouched.” Originally, it was used to describe a free woman—independent, autonomous, untied. In ancient Greece, virginity and virgin were once terms of power, strength, and independence. From virgin cures, to virgin testing to hymenoplasty, to Purity Balls, this talk explores a surprisingly obscure topic. With Ehris and Velya Jancz-Urban. This is a Zoom presentation that will be shown in the library or can be viewed from home. In-person: No registration required.
