Pre-Registration Requirements

1. *Minimum one (1) year of clinical chair-side assistance experience.

The letter must be completed by the sponsoring dentist. Preferably printed on letterhead, the letter verifies:

  1. Employment;
  2. *At least one (1) year chair-side assistance experience; and
  3. Agreement to support intersession (see course description).

 

3. When registering, provide copy of current CPR card (front and back).

 

*Experience may be substituted with successful completion of a dental assisting program. If experience is substituted, kindly provide a copy of completion certificate with along with the recommendation letter.

 

Please note: Attendees MUST be currently working in a dental office to participate in this course. No exceptions.

 


 

IMPORTANT: Attendees will be required to wear a mask when not eating or drinking. Additionally, attendees will be required to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status OR proof of a negative COVID-19 diagnostic test (PCR only) administered no more than 72 hours prior both weekends. A photo or copy of documentation is acceptable.

 


Course Description

This course is designed for dental assistants who would like advanced training in restorative dentistry. The course will provide pre-clinical proficiency in restorative procedures and will include placement and finishing of amalgam and composite restorations to clinical competency. The course consists of both Didactic and Practical components presented in two weekend sessions with an “intersession” in the participant's office of employment.

Please note the following:


1. Didactic: Lecture: This will be verified by written exam.
2. Intersession: Employer's evaluation of restorative ability (chairmount and dentoform) supplied by ULSD. Restorative materials provided by employer.
3. Practical: Pre-clinical: This will be verified by faculty demonstrations and evaluation of participants at the teaching institution.

 

Participants who successfully complete the examination and all required course requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion. Failure to pass this course will result in one (1) opportunity to re-take the entire course at a 50% reduction of current course fee within one year.

 



Successful completion of the course requires:

 

(1) A 75% pass in a multiple choice question examination as well as in the pre-clinical and clinical portions;

(2) All ULSD supplied materials must be returned at the end of the course or a $500 supply fee will be charged to the employer.



This course does not offer Dental Continuing Education but is defined as a Training Course approved by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry.


Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should have an understanding of:

 

  • Tooth morphology
  • Various restorative dental materials, including bases, liners, composites, flowable composites and amalgam
  • Selection and placement of rubber dam clamps
  • Efficient rubber dam placement
  • Selection and placement of matrices
  • Selection and placement of wedges
  • Proper tooth contacts
  • Placement of bases and liners
  • Placement of anterior and posterior composite restorations
  • Placement of amalgam restorations
  • Finishing and polishing techniques for both composite and amalgam restorations, and
  • Placement of temporary filling materials

Dr. Delia A. Forster '07

Delia A. Forster, D.M.D. '07 received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arkansas and graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 2007. She completed a General Practice Residency at UofL in 2008. She is currently a lecturer at the university and covers D.M.D. students in the undergraduate clinics. She also works at the Veterans Administration Hospital treating veterans in all aspects of general dentistry.

All University of Louisville School of Dentistry Faculty are licensed practitioners in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and have no relevant financial relationship to disclose pertaining to this course.

Cancellation Policy:
We reserve the right to cancel, modify date, course content, program faculty and activities to accommodate scheduling conflicts. Pre-registered participants will be notified if a course will not be presented should circumstances warrant such action. In the event a course is cancelled, tuition will be refunded.

All registrations are subject to the ULSD Cancellation Policy. This is a 'limited' attendance course.

ULSD must receive your written request for cancellation not later than four (4) weeks prior to course start date to process a refund. A 30% processing fee will be deducted from all refunds. Course Registrants who are a 'NO-SHOW' forfeit course tuition.
