This course has been developed to introduce structured literacy for early childhood educators. Early childhood is a critical learning period for success in developing future reading and writing skills. Understanding the Science of Reading, or how we learn to read, sets the stage to provide in-depth knowledge and tools that preschool teachers can use with any well-designed early literacy program.
Deborah Jackson is an Early Childhood Instructional Coach (ECIC) with the Central Region Education Cooperative (CREC). She earned her Associate Degree in Human Services from the University of New Mexico, a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, and a Masters in Special Education with a focus in Early Childhood both from the University of Phoenix. She holds three New Mexico Level Three Teaching licenses in Early Childhood Education, K-12 Special Education, and Elementary Education. Deborah has 30+ years’ experience as an early childhood teacher and/or an administrator. She has been with the FOCUS On Young Children’s Learning initiative since 2016. Her coaching expertise is in teacher support, student learning, and engagement. Currently, she is an ECIC for the districts of School of Dreams Academy, Hatch, TorC, and Arrey. Deborah is one of our Lead Facilitators for the FOCUS Professional Learning(s).
Lisa Bishop is an Early Childhood Instructional Coach with the CREC.
