These application training days meet on Monday, January 9th, March 6th, April 17th and May 22nd from 12:30-3:30. You must register before December 12th, 2022 to participate. A license will be issued to you after this date, and you will have access to the units for 1 year. Completion of LETRS-EC requires the completion of both the application training days and the online units.

Please plan to attend all scheduled days. If you register and cannot attend any of these days, you may not be able to make up missed days. Your registration for this cohort will be cancelled, and you will need to register for and start over with a new cohort. Please make sure you are available to attend before you register.

To participate in this cohort, you must complete the online units prior to your scheduled application training days as follows:

Unit 1 before day 1; Unit 2 before day 2; Unit 3 before day 3; Unit 4 before day 4.

Successful completion of the LETRS-Early Childhood training online modules requires a post-test score of 80% or higher.

There is also a possibility that a score of 80% or higher on the post-test may qualify licensed teachers to add a reading endorsement on an early childhood teaching license in the future. This will require a rule change, so may take some time. When this is accomplished, PED will provide the process to submit for the endorsement.

Facilitator(s)

Christobal Ortiz is an Early Childhood Instructional Coach (ECIC) with the Central Region Educational Cooperative (CREC). He earned his Bachelors in Early Childhood Multicultural Education in 2014 and his Master of Education with a focus on Early Childhood Education in 2017, from Steven F Austin State University. Chris has 11 years in PreK and 6 years as a PreK Coordinator. He is a FOCUS Verified Teacher, LETRS Trainer, TPOT reliable, has many years of experience with ECERS-3, and ECOT. He is currently an ECIC for Central Consolidated School District and Socorro Consolidated School District, and is one of our Facilitators for the FOCUS Professional Learning.


Dr. Mary Jimerson is an Early Childhood Instructional Coach with the Central Region Education Cooperative (CREC). She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2001, her Master’s in Special Education in 2011, and her Ph.D in Special Education and Educational Psychology in 2022.

Mary began her career teaching at a private preschool while living in Minnesota. Shortly after this experience and moving to New Mexico she became interested in early childhood development and developmental trajectories of students with developmental disabilities. She has been in the fields of early childhood education and special education for over 20 years as a consultant and instructional coach. She believes every child has the ability to succeed and it is up to us to discover ways to support students and their families using evidence-based practices so our students can reach their fullest potential. She is currently an ECIC for the districts of Bernalillo and Grants and one of our Lead Facilitators for the FOCUS Professional Learning.

 


Jennifer Marez has over 20 years of experience as an educator in Pre-school, Kindergarten, and 1st grade.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University and a New Mexico and Texas license in Early Childhood Education and a K-8 Elementary License.  She also has a TESOL and ESL license with a great deal of experience working with ELL students.  She is currently the Early Childhood Instructional Coach for 5 districts where she has found the opportunity to share her love and passion of teaching and learning with her teachers.
