Due to the ever-changing events and restrictions associated with COVID-19, the WHIMA-Mid State Technical College Joint Workshop scheduled for April 6, 2020 has been postponed until further notice.  It is our intent to reschedule this workshop for a future date.  More details will be provided at a later date as new information becomes available.

In this session, the presenters will share how they have embraced the use of technology to advance their HIM operations. They will cover where they began, where they have come and what technology enhancements they have utilized to advance their work today. The presentation will wrap up with our visions for future technology and having the right mindset for market needs.

Perception Management is a great tool to have in your professional development toolkit. We are going to talk through what it is, strategies to try out, and dive into how to practice in your daily interactions with others.

Ashley Downing, RHIA, CPHIMS


Ashley Downing is the Director of Health & Clinical Informatics as well as the Privacy Officer at North Central Health Care in Wausau, Wisconsin. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree from the College of St. Scholastica majoring in HIM with a CIS minor. She is currently pursuing her MBA in Healthcare Management. Ashley has worked with various EHRs for over 15 years and is active in the AHIMA, HIMSS, and HCCA professional organizations.


Shelley Stokosa, RHIT and Laurie Fitzsimmons, RHIT


Shelley Stokosa and Laurie Fitzsimmons have over 30 years of experience each in HIM operations. Throughout their careers they have transitioned from staff to leadership roles within Aspirus. Both individuals have started in technical roles of Coding, Cancer Registry, and Abstracting to name a few. They expanded their roles to Team Leads and Directors at specific business units and then eventually moved on to a System Director role of HIM, Coding, & Transcription.
