Patricia (Pat) Ducey, RN, BSN, CCDS

Patricia Ducey is a Retrospective Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) reviewer at Penn Medicine- Lancaster General Health. She is currently part of a three-BSN team that reviews all service lines at Penn Medicine/Lancaster General Health (LGH). Charts reviewed include Medicare alive discharges, Mortality, and 30-Day death to maximize our opportunity with US News and World Report (USNWR) methodology and reporting. Pat has her Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist certification, and maintains her Registered Nurse licensure. In 2018 Pat created the role of Mortality Retrospective RN reviewer. That role entailed review of all in-house mortality charts with learned strategies to risk calculate a chart utilizing the Vizient variables and how they related to each DRG. After three successful years of reducing the Observed/Expected (O/E) Mortality at LGH, the role converted into USNWR reviews. That is, learning the importance of capturing chronic comorbidities that impact care. Through these initiatives Pat works very closely with the CDI team, coders, and the providers. She provides updates and education at various venues and works very closely with her partners to share knowledge or information she has learned along the way. Pat received her Bachelors of Nursing from Hunter College- Bellevue School of Nursing, NYC in 1982. When asked to describe herself, Pat doesn't hesitate to say first and foremost that she is a nurse and a mother.
