Bench Testing Preparatory Course in Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry

 

Includes:

Structured Curriculum:   Saturday, August 13, 2022 -   Sunday, August 14, 2022

16 credit hours of hands-on participation continuing education will be provided. 

 

(plus up to 12 hours optional additional individualized unstructured practice time, under faculty supervision, in the simulation clinic Monday, August 15 and Tuesday, August 16, 2022)

Cancellation Policy:

Refunds, less a $500 cancellation fee, will be granted if cancellation notice is received in writing no later than 14 business days prior to the start date of the program. No refund of any fees will be made after this date.

Course Description

Please Note: This course is not a prerequisite for, and does not guarantee admission into, any dental school program.

 

Overview:

 

This course is ideal for International Dentists in preparation for the admissions process at U.S. and Canadian dental schools, as well as for clinicians who want to practice for CDCA (Commission on Dental Competency Assessments).

 

This 2-day structured course provides an extensive review of fixed and operative hands-on skills, consistent with admissions processes and licensing exams. The course will include brief didactic reviews, followed by hands-on practice sessions. Participants will work with faculty from the Restorative and Prosthodontic Departments on preclinical exercises utilizing typodonts.

 

Objectives:

  • Operative Dentistry (typodont exercises)
  • Amalgam preparations and restorations consistent with CDCA (Commission on Dental Competency Assessments) guidelines.
  • Composite preparation exercises (Class II and Class III) consistent with CDCA guidelines.
  • Fixed Prosthodontics (typodont exercises)
  • Perform preparations on a posterior tooth for a full cast metal crown and a porcelain fused to metal full crown
  • Perform preparations on an anterior tooth for a full ceramic crown
  • Optional access to the simulation clinic for additional unstructured practice time for up to 6 hours each of the following 2 days

 

NOTE: Tuition covers all equipment and materials needed (typodonts, handpieces, instruments, burs. teeth)

8:00 – 8:30 am Registration and continental breakfast

8:30 – 10:00 am Class II / Class III preparation and restoration (composite/amalgam)

10:00 – 10:30 am - Orientation to Simulation Lab

10:30 – noon hands-on Class III preparation and restoration (restore, if time allows)

Noon – 1:00 pm Lunch

1:00 – 5:00 pm Hands-on Class II preparation and restoration (composite/amalgam)

8:30 – 9:15 am Full cast metal and porcelain fused to metal crown preparation review (didactic)

9:30 – noon Hands-on cast metal and porcelain fused to metal crown preparations

Noon – 12:30 pm Lunch

12:30 – 1:15 pm Full ceramic crown review (didactic)

1:30 – 5:00 pm Hands-on Full ceramic crown preparations
