Course Description

This course entitled 'Becoming an Inclusive Content Creator' is an online course for any educator tasked with providing accessible, engaging content to ensure learning materials provide ALL learners with opportunities to succeed. It is a hybrid virtual course, consisting of seven asynchronous course modules, three live, synchronous Content Creators Coaching Sessions, and two live, synchronous Content Creators Technology Labs.

The winter 2022 online course will run from January 24, 2022 through April 5, 2022.

The course includes videos, activities, asynchronous discussion forums, webinar meetings, and technology labs on the following topics:

 

Asynchronous Modules

  • Module 1: Building a culture of accessibility (Focus on AEM/UDL)
  • Module 2: Digital document accessibility
  • Module 3: Presentation accessibility (captions, transcripts, etc)
  • Module 4: Website / Social Media accessibility
  • Module 5: Accessible, engaging audio files
  • Module 6: Accessible, engaging video files
  • Module 7: Spreading the word (Building district capacity)

 

Live Coaching Sessions: (all sessions will be recorded)

Instructor

Mike Marotta, ATP - AT Specialist; President, Inclusive Technology Solutions, LLC

Mike is a RESNA Certified Assistive Technology Professional, and the ISTE Inclusive Learning Network (https://inclusiveln.org/) 2017 Outstanding Educator, who has been providing direct services to individuals with all disabilities for 30 years. He runs his own technology consulting firm, Inclusive Technology Solutions, LLC. As an evaluator, Mike works collaboratively with teams in all environments (school, workplace, and community) to effectively match the individual's needs to technology supports.

Mike is a nationally and internationally recognized presenter who was previously a trainer for California State University at Northridge (CSU), providing practical and in-depth training to professionals interested in specializing in assistive technology. In addition, Mike is an adjunct professor at Ramapo College of New Jersey (NJ) where he teaches courses for Masters level educators in Assistive Technology and Universal Design for Learning. Mike is the Director of the Richard West Assistive Technology Advocacy Center at Disability Rights New Jersey, the statewide Assistive Technology Act program for New Jersey. Mike is also a member of the Faculty at the Center on Technology and Disabilities, serves on both the CAST Accessible Educational Materials and Center on Inclusive Technology and Education Systems (CITES) Advisory Boards.

Mike believes in the power of professional networking. He is the founder of edcampAccess NJ, an unconference event focused on teacher led professional development opportunities focused on inclusion, special education and assistive technology. Mike is also active on Twitter (@mmatp) and co-moderates the weekly #ATchat Twitter chat which brings together an international group of practitioners to discuss issues and tools related to delivery of effective assistive technology services.
