Safe Space: Ally Training is the first training in the Kent State University Safe Space Training Series. This series is an on-going training effort through the LGBTQ+ Center and Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion's Training Lab to make our campus and communities safer places for all people regardless of sex or gender. Training participants will learn about bias, stereotypes, current vocabulary, and best practices for handling gender and sexuality topics with sensitivity. After the training, individuals receive a Safe Space Ally sign for their office, indicating their support of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer plus (LGBTQ+) community and knowledge of basic gender and sexuality concepts.

Regardless of where you are on campus, if you interact with students or other employees, you will meet people who identify as LGBTQ+. Having a basic understanding of correct terminology and an understanding of what it means to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community are essential to supporting all people at this university regardless of sexual orientation and gender. There are many students, staff, faculty, and community members that want to be considered allies for the LGBTQ community, and Safe Space: Ally Training is the perfect place to start.

This event is Beyond Compliance Certified for 2 hours/units.

The location of this IN PERSON training will be in the LGBTQ+ Center.

Please direct external registration requests to Lo Denmon at jdenmon@kent.edu.
