Description

The RPDP K-12 Literacy Conference 2023 will provide many opportunities for educators from across the state of Nevada to collaborate and learn from each other. The Friday sessions will be virtual sessions and the Saturday sessions will be in person at Roy Martin Middle School. Participants will have multiple opportunities to work with and learn from other educators, presenters and colleagues. Participants will be able to choose from a variety of sessions to create a unique learning experience.

 

Early Bird Registration is only $15 until April 10th!! Seats are Limited!

 

Guest Speakers include Kristina Smekens from Smekens Education and Dianna Townsend from University Nevada Reno.

Julie Cooper

 

Julie Cooper is a Secondary Literacy Regional Trainer for Southern Nevada Regional Professional Development Program (SNRPDP) in Las Vegas, Nevada where she provides professional development and support to educators. She has worked in Clark County School District for 19 years. Her area of expertise is middle school English Language Arts. She has taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade as well as served as a Learning Strategist for three years at a local middle school. She earned her Master’s of Science in Reading and Bachelor’s of Science in Education from Nova Southeastern University where she also worked as an Assistant Director at the Las Vegas satellite campus. She is passionate in supporting teachers with instructional strategies that result in greater student achievement.

Sandra Ohman

 

Sandi Ohman has been an educator in Southern Nevada for 30 years. She earned her Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education from Eastern Montana College and her Master's of Science in Special Education with an emphasis in learning disabilities from UNLV. Sandi is currently a Secondary Regional Literacy Trainer for the Southern Nevada Regional Professional Development Program. Her area of expertise is middle school English Language Arts, and she has taught students in general education and special education settings. She is eager to share her varied experiences with other educators and looks forward to collaborating and learning together.

Saralyn Lasley

 

Saralyn Lasley has been an educator in CCSD for thirty years. She earned her B.A. in English from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and her Master’s in Curriculum and Supervision from UNLV. Sara started her career in education in Las Vegas as a high school English teacher at Valley High School and later opened Silverado High School. In 2001, Sara took a position with the Southern Nevada Regional Professional Development Program (SNRPDP) as a Secondary Literacy Trainer. In that capacity, she provides professional development for teachers in Southern Nevada in the areas of ELA and social studies content support; content area literacy; National Board Candidate writing support and brain-based learning. Sara has also served as Co-director for the Southern Nevada Writing Project and has worked as an adjunct instructor for UNLV and Nevada State College.

The Southern Nevada Regional Professional Development Program is a state-funded organization offering professional development focused on the content teachers teach, how they teach it, student performance, and changes in instructional strategies that result in increased student achievement.

*License Renewal: The SNRPDP is an approved continuing education provider for the Nevada Department of Education (https://tinyurl.com/y3apmdzd). For specific questions regarding approved coursework please contact the Nevada Department of Education.

 

**Salary Advancement: SNRPDP professional development workshops and courses are approved for PGP use in the Clark County School District (https://tinyurl.com/y4lmdrvz). Specific questions regarding coursework approval for salary advancement should be directed to your school district.

Fees

All participants pay a $30.00 fee to RPDP upon checkout.

 

*Please note that the discounted conference fee for early bird registration will expire on April 10, 2023. The conference registration fee will increase to $30.00 after this date.

 

*Fees collected for professional development opportunities are used to purchase books and resources specific to the training. Please note that this RPDP fee is non-refundable.
