Course Description

Pain is the most common presenting symptom of a dental patient. The learner will receive an overview of different types of pain syndromes and best practice guidelines on the management of acute and chronic dental pain. Non-steroidal analgesics and Opioids will be discussed. Pharmacology of pain medications will be discussed in detail.

 

Course Objectives
At the completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Discuss common types of pain experienced by the dental patient
  • Understand how the management of pain affects the quality of life of the dental patient.
  • Develop an awareness of misconceptions and consequences of untreated pain.
  • Identify appropriate analgesics for each type of pain.
  • Discuss the pharmacology of analgesic medications
  • Understand the role of the dental team in assessment and treatment of pain.
