Penn GSE Virtual Institutes bring Penn's faculty and resources to teachers, educators and leaders across the globe. In these innovative professional learning modules, participants engage in real-time, online group sessions as well as reflect and learn at their own pace in asynchronous sessions. Institutes typically span three consecutive half days, allowing participants to accelerate their learning while continuing to fulfill their professional obligations.

Participants who successfully complete this Virtual Institute will receive a Penn GSE Certificate of Participation.

Senior campus administrators are invited to enroll in this Virtual Institute either as a standalone program, or as a part of a four-part Certificate Program in Collegiate Athletics for Senior Leaders.

Virtual Institute Information

This Virtual Institute focuses on the broader structures and regulations senior campus administrators providing oversight must understand to ensure the athletics department's transparency, while mitigating legal and risk exposure. Across each institution, a wide range of personnel both inside and outside the athletics department have different NCAA responsibilities. Understanding how each role contributes to a successful athletic program is crucial, and allows for broader conversations about institutional priorities.

In this Virtual Institute, you will examine the complexities that federal regulations, conference alignment with peers, medical care and liability responsibilities, and revenue generation bring to college athletics. Leaders will discuss the power differentials within athletic programs that can skew campus priorities, while developing strategies to address them. Furthermore, you will learn the intricacies of financial aid, proper supervision of coaching staffs, and becoming a fully compliant program with Title IX.
