'I never travel without my diary. One should always keep something sensational to read in the train.'
—Oscar Wilde
Travel writing is more than just traveling. It is imbuing your reader with the nuances and textures of your experiences in a unique and riveting piece of literature, whether a blog, essay, article, or novel. In this seminar we will learn about the fourteen types of travel writing every aspiring writer should know and highlight examples from the best contemporary travel writers: Paul Theroux, Susan Orlean, Bill Bryson, and Pico Iyer. We will discuss acclaimed travel giants in literature: Grahame Greene, V.S. Naipaul, and Nathaniel Hawthorne, to name a few. Come prepared to share your travel articles. Essays, or journals for class discussion. In this constructive and supportive environment, we will share our stories to mold them into refined pieces of writing for this highly competitive market.
