Course Description

In this one-day class, we will explore recurring elements in fairy tales known as archetypes or motifs. Heroes and heroines, ineffectual parents, evil stepparents, and helpful animals are some recurring types of fairy tale characters we will touch on. We will also discuss fairy tale landscapes and architecture and common themes that arise from plot. Students will experiment with mixing archetypes to write a rough draft of a fairy tale in class and share drafts in small groups for supportive feedback.
One session: $95/$85.50. Led by Anca Szilágyi.
