Course Description
Explore the creative dynamics between Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, the two dominant figures in Western art in the first half of the 20th century. As friends and rivals, these artists challenged and inspired one another over the course of their five-decades-long friendship.

Class sessions will chart each artist’s development during the early, middle and late career stages, with frequent cross-references to the work of the other so that aesthetic and biographical similarities and differences can be comprehended.
