Program Overview

The International Dentist Bootcamp is a program designed to allow the participants to develop a successful dental career in the U.S. Fostering a successful career involves recognizing the challenges and opportunities that foreign trained dentists have in the American dental education model and the value of preparation and networking in the process.

 

Participants of this program will receive training in the step-by-step process of the application to American dental schools for Advance Standing and Specialty programs, and other career paths for the foreign trained in the U.S.: research, leadership, corporate and advocacy. Participants will build and receive feedback on an action plan to achieve their professional goals, learn the skills to craft a powerful CV and personal statement, and practice the interview skills needed for success. Bootcampers will join and build a networking community with program directors and other successful dental practitioners in the country.

 



Learning Objectives

The International Dentist Bootcamp Program provides a framework for foreign trained dentist to understand the pathways to obtaining a dental license or study a specialty program in the U.S. Using an interactive framework this program will create opportunities for internationally trained dentists to virtually engage and network with the dental community in the U.S.

 

By the end of the Bootcamp, participants will be able to:

 

  • discuss the American dental education model, including recognizing the differences between predoctoral and postdoctoral programs
  • synthesize the main steps in the application process for a residency or advanced standing program and the difference between the application requirements and examinations
  • identify the licensure variabilities across states
  • construct a competitive Curriculum Vitae, personal statement, and a career action plan
  • examine strategies to succeed at interviews
  • network with program directors, successful international dentists practicing in the U.S. and other foreign students currently enrolled in U.S. programs

Target Audience

International Trained Dentists, who are either interested in:

• Pursuing advanced educational programs in the United States and/or

• Obtaining dental licensing in the United States

 

*This course is in English, so individual who register should be proficient in English


Program Directors

GABRIELA LAGRECA, DDS, MBA, Assistant Professor and Director of Faculty Education and Calibration, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Lagreca is a Board-Certified Prosthodontist and fellow of the American Board of Prosthodontics. She received her first dental degree (DDS) from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas. She then received her certificate in Prosthodontics, Implant Fellowship training and currently Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degrees from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM). Dr. Lagreca teaches in classroom, clinical and preclinical prosthodontics to pre and postdoctoral residents and supports the Office of Academic Affairs in faculty development, training, and calibration. She was appointed for the ADEA Council of Faculties national representation, and is the Director of the Academic Dental Career Fellowship Program (ADEA-ADCFP) where, over one year, selected dental students and residents explore the three pillars of academic careers: teaching, educational research, and service, via direct mentorship. Dr. Lagreca is the President of the American College of Prosthodontics Massachusetts section, where she leads the prosthodontics community in the state, organizes continuing education programs and collaborates with dental professionals and educators from Harvard, Tufts and Boston University. Dr. Lagreca’s achievements have been recognized by the Incisal Edge Magazine 40-under-40 2021 Award and The American Dental Association Institute for Diversity in Leadership. See Faculty Profile Here

IRINA F. DRAGAN, DMD, DDS, MS, Adjunct Associate Professor and  Former Director of Faculty Education and Instructional Development, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Irina Dragan is a Diplomate and Examiner of the American Board of Periodontology. She received her first dental degree (DDS) from Carol Davila University in Romania. She then received her certificate in Periodontology, Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degrees from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM). Dr. Dragan also completed an advanced education program at New York University College of Dentistry in Comprehensive Dentistry with a concentration in esthetic dentistry.  In collaboration with Dean Nadeem Karimbux, she co-founded the Dental Education Learning and Teaching Academy (D.E.L.T.A.) Fellowship and Mini-Residency programs. These programs prepare dental educators nationally and globally on fundamentals of teaching and educational research. She has published, authored chapters in textbooks and, is one of the editors of the “Newman and Carranza’s Essentials of Clinical Periodontology: an Integrated Study Companion”. Her academic and professional achievements have been recognized with the University Provost's Award for Outstanding Teaching and Service, American Dental Education Association Chair of the Board of Directors (Presidential) Citation, American Academy of Periodontology Foundation Tarrson Fellowship Award, Academy of Osseointegration Applied Clinical Research Award, and most recently Massachusetts Dental Society “10 under 10” Award.  See Faculty Profile Here

Refund Policy

Full tuition refund or credit will be given for cancellations received at least two weeks prior to the course start date. Refunds or tuition credit will not be given after that time or to no-shows.


Wait List Policy

If a CE course obtains enough registrations where a wait list is established, the CE office will notify individuals with unpaid registration balances and ask them to pay their balance to secure their place in the course. If payment is not made to secure their place, the CE office has the right to offer that place to a paying individual on the wait list.


Enrollment and Cancellation Policy

The Office of Continuing Education reserves the right to close registration when an enrollment limit is reached and to cancel, modify, or alter content or faculty for any course if circumstances indicate the need for such a change. If the school finds it necessary to cancel a course, a full refund will be granted. All attempts to contact registrants will be made as soon as possible in the event of a course cancellation. The school will not be held responsible for any losses due to travel arrangements made by the registrant.

In the event of inclement weather (such as a snow emergency) or other extenuating circumstances, the Office of Continuing Education may be forced to cancel or postpone a course. If a course has been canceled, we will contact participants by the phone number and/or email address provided. You may call or email our office on the day of the course if you are uncertain of a course's status.
