New Teacher Academy Years 2-3+

MAISD is proud to continue the New Teacher Academy by building upon learning experienced during the First Year New Teacher Academy to further develop and support our newer educators! This hybrid series will cover topics related to strengthening skill sets by moving from research-based best practices to application in the classroom. Other topics to be covered will include: Special Education, Student Supports, Strategies for Student and Parent Engagement, Classroom Management, and Best Instructional Practices

 

Light dinner included with in person sessions.

Teachers in their second or third years (or beyond) of teaching

 

Priority to districts within MAISD. Addl spaces may be opened beyond MAISD.


Cost

Registration is $50.00 for outside of the MAISD/local districts.

 

  • Many events carry a 20% discount for MAISD schools and districts. Some events are entirely free to MAISD schools and districts. See flyer (above) for details. Discount will be confirmed at billing.

 

  • Cancellations BEFORE the registration deadline will be at no cost. Please contact pd@maisd.com prior to the registration deadline if a cancellation is needed.

 

  • Cancellations AFTER the registration deadline will be charged $25. In some cases, late cancellations may be charged up to 100% of the event registration and material costs. After the registration deadline, MAISD orders materials for registered participants.

Presenter(s): Angie Adams; Heather Phillips; Kris Lindsey

Angie Adams has worked in various roles within a K-12 system and at the ISD level. She earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Elementary Education, a Master of Arts (MA) in Educational Technology, has a Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in English and a Michigan School Administrator Certificate. Prior to becoming the Continuous Improvement Consultant at Montcalm Area ISD, she taught in a self-contained classroom, as a at-risk/Title 1 interventionist spanning in grades K-8; she was an elementary principal at Alma Public Schools, and was the MTSS Systems Coach/MICIP Lead Consultant at Saginaw ISD. Angie has vast experience with MICIP, has been a member of the Michigan Continuous Improvement Facilitators Network (MCIFN) and their steering committee, as well as the Michigan Association of State and Federal Program Specialists (MASFPS). She has worked closely with the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN) and the State Implementation and Scaling-Up of Evidence-based Practices Center (SISEP) in Implementation Science, and was a contributing member to the State of Michigan MTSS Practice Profile.


Heather Phillips is the Early Childhood Literacy Coordinator at MAISD. She is a passionate educator serving as the MAISD Early Childhood Literacy Coordinator. Her Master’s degree is from Michigan State University in educational leadership, and her B.A. from Grand Valley State University in Psychology/Special Education continues to enhance her mission to serve educators, caregivers, and students with compassion and effective practices. She believes in the power of coaching to transform individuals or groups. Some of her most recent professional learning has been with university researchers and other experts around the literacy essentials, engaging children, and the Historically Responsive Literacy Framework.


Kris Lindsey holds a M.A. in classroom instruction with the emphasis on science and reading. Kris has been servicing education locally for over 28 years. She comes to Montcalm Area Intermediate School District with 9 years in early childhood education, 19 years in classroom teaching experiences in the elementary and middle school level and 1.5 years in multitiered systems of support (MTSS).
