MAISD is proud to present a series of opportunities for New Teachers! In September
learning will be around starting out the school year strong. In October, participants will
learn about classroom management, student engagement and the Michigan Code of
Educational Ethics, making the most of your mentor/mentee relationship and establishing
a classroom culture. In November, participants will enjoy a session around planning and
teaching for student learning and thinking and more active engagement strategies. In
January, participants will will learn about assessment for learning. February will have
participants discussing effective communication with administrators, colleagues and
families. March will be a time for reflecting about how to manage stress and staying in
the field of education long-term. The New Teacher Academy will wrap up in May with
reflection about how the year was and what could be done differently.

Adel DiOrio, Ed.S. serves as the Associate Superintendent of Instruction for Montcalm Area Intermediate School District. She earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Elementary Education, a Master of Arts in Master of Arts (M.A.) in Educational Administration K-12, and a Specialist in General Education Administration (Ed.S.). She holds a Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate with teaching endorsements in Spanish and mathematics and a Michigan School Administrator Certificate with endorsements in Elementary, Secondary, and Central Office. Adel has experience and passion in the areas of leadership and organizational development, school culture, curricular design, assessment for learning, and student engagement strategies. Miranda has been working in public education for 28 years. She started with Carson City-Crystal Area Schools as a special education resource room teacher at Crystal Elementary for eight years. She then joined Montcalm Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) in September, 2002. Miranda continues to be employed with MAISD as an MTSS Consultant. Miranda earned both her Bachelors and Master’s degrees from Grand Valley State University. Her current endorsements for special education include: Cognitive Impairments, Emotional Impairments and Learning Disabilities. Miranda completed her certification, through the University of Kansas, as a professional developer for SIM® (Strategic Instruction Model) in May, 2009 for Learning Strategies. She then completed Content Enhancement Routines in January, 2012. Miranda has led several professional development sessions with the MAISD. Miranda is also a certified CHAMPS trainer, Acadience Mentor and Explicit Instruction trainer.
Adel is a member of the General Education Leadership Network (GELN) and is co-chair of the GELN Disciplinary Literacy Taskforce. She is also on the Talent Together Design Team.
