Participants will be able to explain the role of social, emotional, and behavioral supports in the classroom, improve academic outcomes by exploring trauma informed classroom practices and how to determine which strategies to select. Participants will describe practices that support a safe, predictable, positive and engaging classroom environment. Participants will identify active engagement strategies for use in the classroom. Participants will understand what trauma is and the impact it can have on an individual and identity ways to support staff and student wellness through strong systems and strategies. Participants will develop a plan to implement the strategies for their classroom.

Kris Lindsey holds a M.A. in classroom instruction with the emphasis on science and reading. Kris has been servicing education locally for over 28 years. She comes to Montcalm Area Intermediate School District with 9 years in early childhood education, 19 years in classroom teaching experiences in the elementary and middle school level and 1.5 years in multitiered systems of support (MTSS). Miranda has been working in public education for 28 years. She started with Carson City-Crystal Area Schools as a special education resource room teacher at Crystal Elementary for eight years. She then joined Montcalm Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) in September, 2002. Miranda continues to be employed with MAISD as an MTSS Consultant. Miranda earned both her Bachelors and Master’s degrees from Grand Valley State University. Her current endorsements for special education include: Cognitive Impairments, Emotional Impairments and Learning Disabilities. Miranda completed her certification, through the University of Kansas, as a professional developer for SIM® (Strategic Instruction Model) in May, 2009 for Learning Strategies. She then completed Content Enhancement Routines in January, 2012. Miranda has led several professional development sessions with the MAISD. Miranda is also a certified CHAMPS trainer, Acadience Mentor and Explicit Instruction trainer.
