Massage can be a relaxing way for parents to connect with their infants and children. This in-person class will introduce new parents and caregivers to the world of infant massage.

Participants will learn:

  • Benefits of massage for infants and parent-infant relationships.
  • Physiological and hormonal impact of massage on the infant.
  • How to identify and respond to infant cues before and during a massage.
  • Environmental considerations for massaging an infant.
  • Massage techniques and practice time for a whole-body infant massage.
  • Ways to modify massage as infants become mobile and throughout childhood.

The ideal time to introduce infant massage is when the baby is between two months old and crawling; however, parents and infants of any age after two months through the first birthday are welcome. All parents/caregivers may attend, but the best experience for baby will be for a single adult to conduct the massage during each session. Strokes will be reviewed in every class so that each adult may have an opportunity to participate during a different class time. Practice between classes is encouraged!
