Current seventh and eighth-grade students are invited to choose four exciting hands-on career exploration classes at the Career Tech Center!
(See availability during registration, must choose a separate class for each day.)
Learn about animal behavior, health, and wellness. Explore bee hives and learn about beekeeping, and hive management. Students will also work with plants through landscaping, floral design, and propagation.
(Students will be given protective wear, but those with bee allergies should not attend.)
Find out how to repair cars that have been damaged in an accident. Work with Bondo filler, practice sanding, and paint a project with a real spray gun and automotive paint. Learn how to weld plastic too! Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required.
Learn about basic construction practices and safety while building small-scale take-home projects. Students gain hands-on experience with hand and power tools. Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required.
Learn how solar power is used to create energy. Explore the inner workings of an electric motor and how it creates horsepower. Even build a model solar car to race and take home!
Find out how an engine operates as you build a model engine to take home. Then, use engine scanners to find out if an engine is causing pollution, analyze engine performance, and determine repair solutions. Closed-toe shoes required.
Explore the world of graphic production and printing by designing and creating projects to keep! Use Macintosh computers and Adobe professional software such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
Explore hospitality careers like lodging, amusement parks, cruise ships, and food service. You'll also practice food preparation in a professional kitchen. Closed-toe shoes and hair ties required.
Operate radar and portable radios as you learn the basics in field operations, forensics, legal services, and emergency response in this hands-on class. You'll even meet real police officers, firefighters, and other public safety officials as you find out what it's really like to work in criminal justice.
Learn basic programming as you build your own Raspberry Pi minicomputer! Interact with buttons and switches to control lights, sounds, and motors using simple electronic circuits you build yourself.
Do you enjoy helping others look their best? Learn basic hairstyles, braiding techniques, skin care, make-up application, and nail care as you explore the career opportunities available in Cosmetology.
